Three more positive things:

1. I have triumphed over my TV! Specifically, I have fixed the problem where old TV shows (i.e., 4:3) streaming on Netflix turned all my favorite characters into slightly squashed versions of themselves. It was an embarrassingly easy fix (not, as you would think, a matter of changing the TV aspect ratio, but changing the settings on my BluRay, duh), but still -- victory is mine! :)

2. Another free Fossil bag hand-me-down from my aunt. (This is the third one; I'm starting to wonder if she's doing it on purpose.) It is a very pretty green tote-ish shaped bag, and I really like it.

3. After realizing that the "first episode" of Lewis that is available everywhere is not, in fact, the first episode, I spent several hours yesterday trying to obtain the actual pilot. I tried everywhere -- I was totally willing to give ITV a fair sum of money to view it, but it could not be found for love or money, unless I wanted to commit fraud and also obtain a valid British billing address, or unless I wanted to buy a DVD boxset for $50. But then I found a link!...and it was expired. So I sent a plea out into the void, and I just got notified that the links have been updated! Thank you, generous internet stranger. ♥! I am passing the time until K gets home to watch with me by watching that other show about a grumpy Oxford copper -- since I can now watch Inspector Morse without being driven mad by the messed-up aspect ratio (see #1).

Four months after my last post....

[livejournal.com profile] spatz tagged me for this meme: The rules: during the next five days, post three positive things about your day and ask three people to do the same so the positive attitude can gain some ground.

I had a semi-wretched week, so it was really hard to come up with things that didn't run along the lines of "Well, this good thing happened, but it started as/ended up being a bad thing that was super stressful..." so I have delayed until today.

1) The new girl at work started last Tuesday; not only does this lessen my workload, but during the course of the week, I have discovered that she's a fellow nerd: she loves Welcome to Night Vale, the Avengers, Minecraft, Tolkein, and endearingly, M*A*S*H. She can also hold a decent conversation and is apparently super excited about going to see Singin' In The Rain next weekend. I have very high hopes. :)

2) Twin has lured me into Tumblr fandom finally. It was not the shiny that did me in, but rather Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries discussion about Jack Robinson and his many issues (which you can read here). I find it hilariously appropriate, for some reason, that my Tumblr experience began with 700 words of meta. Anyway! Let me know you who are so we can be friends! I am inmyriadbits over there as well.

3) I taught myself how to make gifsets! (See item #2) Click here for Baby's First Gifset, which is of course of Phryne and Jack from Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries solving crime while flirting ridiculously and generally being unbearably adorable, as they constantly do.

Okay, so I apparently haven't posted to LJ in so long that I'm completely weirded out by the new posting form. Yikes, it's been since October! Well, I'm back to do a five-questions meme from [livejournal.com profile] ignipes. I'm not sure doing this right now, when I've just had my wisdom teeth out and am currently loopy on some substantial painkillers with half my face swollen like a chipmunk, is really the best idea, but oh well. *jazz hands*

-Comment with "Winter is Coming" your current favorite catch-phrase/quote from a show/movie, because I have no emotional attachment to Game of Thrones (yet), sorry.
-I'll respond by asking you five questions so I can get to know you better.
-Update your journal with the answers to the questions.
-Include this explanation in the post and offer to ask other people questions. (If you want. Totally optional.)

My questions and answers:

1. What would your ideal doesn't-exist-but-totally should TV show be about? )

2. What is the ONE movie you think everybody should see? ONLY ONE. NO CHEATING. )

3. What's your favorite comfort food? )

4. What superpower do you want to have? )

5. What's the best advice you've ever received? Or the worst, if that's more entertaining? )

Well, that was fun! I need to start posting more. I got a new job, so my life and free time are no longer being swallowed up by work like they were, which is awesome. I have weekends! And free evenings! It's amazing. :)

Wow, have I really not posted since July? ...Oops.

Let's see, what's been going on. I went on a long lovely trip to New England at the end of July/beginning of August, and got to see tons of family and old friends and hang out with fangirls in Boston and New York. I really needed that trip, damn. Then there was lots and lots of visiting family here -- my aunt and uncle, and my fabulous older sister. And I moved! Now I am renting with my sister, and we have an adorable little house that will totally host some parties soon, although I am really done with unpacking and cleaning already. I've been working a lot, because traveling and moving are both expensive, and unfortunately the summer busy season just slowed way down.

How about a meme? Taken from [livejournal.com profile] celli:

Comment and I will ...

1. Tell you why I friended you. If I remember.
2. Associate you with something.
3. Tell you something I like about you.
4. Tell you a memory I have of you.
5. Associate you with a character/pairing.
6. Ask something I've always wanted to know about you.
7. Tell you my favourite userpic of yours.
8. Tell you that you must post this in your own journal.

I had an incredibly long weekend, you guys. And I feel all disconnected from fandom, so let's do a meme! [livejournal.com profile] dsudis did this one recently, and I always love it (and have, in fact, done it a couple of times before):

1) Make a list of fifteen characters first, and keep it to yourself for the moment. (That way you're not leading the questions asked to fit the characters.)

2) Ask your flist to post questions in the comments. Each person can ask as many questions as they like.

For example:

'Eight, Ten, and Twelve are all in a bank that gets robbed. What do each of them do?'
'Thirteen and Four become roommates. How did that happen?'
'Which character on the list would you most want on your side in a zombie invasion?'
etc.

3) After your flist has asked enough questions, round them up and answer them using the fifteen characters you selected beforehand, then post them.
inmyriadbits: oranges on blue (happypinkpartysombrero)
Pick up the book nearest to you. Turn to page 45. The first sentence there describes your sex life in 2012:

"I had to blow up half the mountain, but, boy, it did the trick!"

(Hee. Sorry, I couldn't resist! Quote courtesy of The Adventures of Tintin: Tintin in America, hilariously enough.)
inmyriadbits: oranges on blue (happypinkpartysombrero)
from [livejournal.com profile] ignipes:

1) Discover the #1 single in your country of origin in the week you were born.
2) Find it on YouTube.
3) Post it on your LJ/DW page without shame. Or for some of you, with shame.

Half-performance video, half-backstage-documentary; surprisingly full of pyrotechnics and people flying around stage in wire harnesses; less surprisingly full of outrageous hair -- I present the video for Bon Jovi's eternal "Livin' On A Prayer," which had four straight weeks at #1, a streak which ended a few days after my birthday in March of 1987: Livin' On A Prayer

I have decided to invent a meme, because I am wretched and bored and feel like writing. So:

Go here and find a fortune cookie message that pings your interest. (Or, if you're feeling ambitious, make up your own ridiculous fortune, or use one you remember from a real cookie, or google one.) Then comment with the fortune and a fandom/pairing/character, and I will write you commentfic.

Feel free to add "in bed" to the end as necessary. It is traditional, after all. :D

I am pretty much a fandom free-for-all, so ask for whatever your little hearts desire.
inmyriadbits: oranges on blue (happypinkpartysombrero)
So, most of us fangirls have a folder somewhere on our computer hard drive. This folder is full of pictures of good-looking people. ([livejournal.com profile] tazical calls this her "To Do" folder. I find this utterly appropriate.)

Therefore, I'm stealing Taz's idea and making it a meme. Everyone needs pictures of hot people to get them through a Monday, right? My To Do folder has exactly 99 random pictures in it, so:

I feel like spamming photos of hot people. Give me a number between 1 and 99 [insert your own total number here], and I will post the corresponding picture from my To Do folder. And then we all win!

And feel free to return the favor to the world on your own journals as well!

Because I'm in such a great mood due to a) sleeping like a normal person last night and b) my SUPER SHINY AWESOME NEW LAPTOP, Captain Pretty -- let's do a meme!

Post a comment, and I will reply with one or two reasons why I think you're great. In return, you have to post this same meme on your blog and comment for other people. [you don't have to do that; this is obligation-free flattery, people!]

In the hopes you will all have entertaining guesses for me by the time I wake up, a meme:

Post 10 of your favourite shows/books/movies/plays/whatevers.
Have your friends list guess your favourite character from each.
When guessed, strike out the fandom, mark in your favourite character and who guessed it.

1. Star Trek (reboot-verse) Jim Kirk
2. White Collar
3. Prison Break
4. Hawaii Five-0
5. The Pretender
6. The Man From U.N.C.L.E.
7. The Losers
8. NCIS: LA
9. Castle Richard Castle
10. Casablanca Captain Louis Renault, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] yahtzee63

(P.S. Katie, you know the drill by now, I hope.)
inmyriadbits: oranges on blue (Default)
- So I just realized that I never posted the results for the unguessed pairings in the quotations ship meme a couple of weeks ago. I've now updated the post with the answers -- no one guessed Miss Parker/Jarod (The Pretender), Josh Lyman/Donna Moss (The West Wing), Olivia Dunham/Peter Bishop (Fringe), Napoleon Solo/Illya Kuryakin (The Man From U.N.C.L.E.), or Steve McGarrett/Danny Williams (Hawaii Five-0). For shame on the last one, people. The rest I kind of expected -- serves me right for being ridiculously multifannish. The pairings that were guessed were Brad Colbert/Nate Fick (Generation Kill), Bertie Wooster/Reginald Jeeves (Jeeves & Wooster), John Watson/Sherlock Holmes (Sherlock Holmes books), Lord Peter Wimsey/Harriet Vane (Lord Peter Wimsey series), and Benton Fraser/Ray Kowalski (Due South).

- I have started compulsively watching QI again. Why is Stephen Fry so awesome, seriously? I just want to be his friend, give him a hug, and sit around drinking tea and/or madeira while talking about obscure trivia. (SIGH why am I not Emma Thompson)

- Question: does anyone know where I might *ahem* look for video editing programs, with, say, an eye patch on, if you know what I mean? I've been really wanting to make some vids, but fuck if I'm going to do it with Windows Movie Maker again.

- In other, unrelated news, I can't stop listening to Janelle Monáe's song "Cold War". I'm not sure why. It's awesome. :)
inmyriadbits: oranges on blue (happypinkpartysombrero)
Did I mention how UTTERLY BORED I am? I am, in fact, indexing and sorting the books in our parents' garage. If you have ever seen my dad's collection of science fiction books, you would know just how Don Quixote-like amounts of crazy this is. So, please save me thus:

Leave the name of a character/person from a fandom you know I'm in, and I will tell you:

* How I FEEEEEL about this character
* All the people I ship romantically with this character
* My non-romantic OTP for this character -
* My unpopular opinion about this character
* One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.
inmyriadbits: oranges on blue (holmes221B)
Oh my god, you guys. I am so fucking bored right now. And antsy. Like, really antsy. Like, want to go swing dancing or run around the block or something, that kind of antsy. Only I can't do those things, because it is 11pm. What the hell. So instead, I'm going through some old files and finding all the half-finished memes I have hanging around. (There may be more of these coming. I am BORED, and I slept for 12 hours because work has been deathly slow and I have no responsibilities, because I am a poor excuse for an adult human being. Anyway.)

And as always -- Katie, you know me too well. Let the other kids play first. ;)

Ship meme: (taken from here)

ugggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhh fml

I forgot how much I hate being sick. It screws with things like going to jiu-jitsu and going swing dancing and having people over to watch ridiculous French action movies. Also I can't breathe that well, and am sneezing and coughing and running a fever, and dinner tonight is very inconveniently steak and baked potatoes and salad, like there's anything less appetizing to me right now, but I can't complain since I'm not doing any work or anything.

I am too wiped to even really do anything, too. I have already finished my book, and watched the entire S1 of Slings & Arrows, and tried reading fic, or finishing one of the other books I'm halfway through, or convincing my sister read to me, and I'm bored. It's like I'm too tired to care, but not tired enough to just check out. Damn it.

:(

pity me?

[livejournal.com profile] lordessrenegade gave me icons for this meme:

1. Reply to this post, and I will pick six of your icons.
2. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.
3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
4. This will create a never-ending cycle of icon squee.

1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the next 4-7 sentences on your LJ along with these instructions.
5. Don't you dare dig for that "cool" or "intellectual" book in your closet! I know you were thinking about it! Just pick up whatever is closest (unless it's too troublesome to reach and is really heavy. Then go back to step 1).

I was tagged for this by [livejournal.com profile] gingerwall, and am thereby honor-bound to carry out my duty, but I was immediately faced with a terrible dilemma. I'm sitting on the chair in my room, which is right next to the bookshelf that extends out perpendicular to the wall, thus leaving about half of the books I own eligible for the claim to "nearest book" fame. Luckily, I noticed that the stack of library books on the floor were sticking out a slight bit closer than the bookshelf, so I took the top one:

"I am the less surprised at what has happened," replied Sir William, "for her superior mastery of the deadly arts and high breeding are known throughout the courts of Europe."

Scarcely anything was talked of the whole day or next morning but their visit to Rosings. Mr. Collins was carefully instructing them in what they were to expect, that the sight of such rooms, so many servants, a personal guard of five-and-twenty ninjas, and so splendid a dinner, might not wholly overpower them.

Okay, so I normally don't sign up for love memes, because when I'm in a good mood they kind of embarrass me, and when I'm in a bad mood and need bucking up, they inevitably don't get any response and just make things worse.

BUT ANYWAY. This one is too awesome to skip, because it's basically ridiculous love letters from your friends, only written as if from fictional characters! HOW IS THAT NOT AWESOME. (It's really fun paging through the other comments for the meme, because confessions of love/respect/adoration from the likes of Bertie Wooster, Shawn Spencer, Ray Person, and Lex Luthor are kind of hilarious.)

I'm actually a little sad that I've only seen a few people I know in the comments, because I've been having a blast writing replies for those I do. :D
