Thoughts

I am afraid this won't make much sense to anyone else. I'm not sure it's very clear, I'm damn sure it's not concise, and I'm fairly certain most of the textual references are sufficiently clouded by lack of sleep and personal filters to be near-impossible to understand.

With that in mind, read on if you dare. Spoilers for Dorothy Sayers through Gaudy Night, Lois McMaster Bujold through A Civil Campaign, and a little bit of As You Like It thrown in with little relevance )

Beauty, Due South, Prince Caspian, conversations, guilty pleasures meme

I haven't really had the time or inclination or energy recently to put together a real LJ post, so I've just had a couple of Notepad files that I've been jotting down random thoughts in so I can later develop them into postable material. This is some of what I've accumulated from the past few weeks.

Beauty In The City )

There are many things I love about Due South fandom, to which I am relatively new. Random thoughts of a newbie fangirl )

Prince Caspian )

Conversations and pet peeves )

Since I was sort of tagged by geekwriter413... )

Oh, and this is so cool.

Alright, that's it for now.

On Walking

You know, I would really actually like to be trying to sleep at the moment, believe it or not. I could be snuggled up under my nice warm down comforter getting ahead on sleep for the next week. But instead, the girls in the room next to mine are having a dance party to girly, insipid pop songs. The few moments of reprieve come when Kelly Clarkson songs come on, because I secretly like her music. And yes, I am staying in on a Saturday night reading fanfic and watching Due South DVDs (more on this later), but I partied last night, damn it. I don't need to get drunk every night on the weekend, no matter how much some people feel the need to. So, I thought I'd update since it has been brought to my attention that my LJ has been rather quiet *waves to [livejournal.com profile] maribou413*. So, here's some random thoughts I've been having.

College

Barnard rocks.

Granted, I've had a few moments this week that were definitely not happy, but on reflection, the balance has been wonderful. I mean, I'm in New York City, in the first place; New York City, one of the most wonderful cities in the world; New York City, subject of countless books, movies, and poems; New York City, home of Spider-Man, Sports Night, and (of course) Sex and the City (Cynthia Nixon/Miranda is a Barnard alum!). :)

Then there's the school, the women who have come here, and the teachers who are thrilled to their toes to teach here. If anyone tries to tell you that the people you surround yourself with don't affect the kind of person you will become, laugh in their face for me. Thus, I'm very happy with where I am.

Regarding individual instances of rocking-ness, I have made the following listlist )

Broadway!

I went to see "Thoroughly Modern Millie" at the Bass Concert Hall tonight. Good happy-ending, underdog-winning fun to be had all around, along with music, dance numbers, and fun 20s costumes. Sigh. I want them all.

I'm lovin' the free tickets Mr. Kelly keeps getting (Poncho Sanchez, Peru Negro, this...), plus the neat guest speakers he has come in -- for instance, I got to meet Clifford Antone, owner of the famous Antone's nightclub on Sixth Street. Plus, since I was one of the people who stayed behind after the bell rang to talk to him, he gave us cards with his number on them and told us to call if we ever came by. Can we say cool? Heeeelll yes, we can!

I think that was some of the best advice Diane Carroll ever gave me: stay behind for the "after-party party," and not in the R Kelly Ignition after-party sense. I mean the everyone-leaves-except-a-few-people, so it's easier to talk to the speaker/performer/whoever. That's how I got to talk to the psych prof at Barnard, and got the autographs of the cast of the 5-person performance of Midsummer Night's Dream, and talk to Robert Macneil (writer of Do You Speak American?) and got my picture on the front page of the paper. I'm sure there have been other times, too.

In case anyone cares -- which, since I don't think anyone reads this journal, would be no one -- I got into Barnard College! (of Columbia University; I always have to add that, since no one seems to know what Barnard is). I'm very excited. New York, New York, here I come!
